Becci Wallace’s Christmas single Ghost journeys back to her early 20’s. Working for DF Concerts, she spent 12 Christmas seasons at the Ice Rink at George Square in Glasgow- A hub of festivities throughout the day and night, Becci reflects on the chaos and detachment of the time, watching people come and go, the long hours and sense of being a staple of the city, but not the celebrations. Ghost is a call back to the people she met, the ‘lost boys’ and those affected by Christmas due to adversity or painful memories- the expectations of happiness and the anchor of family.
lyrics
23, Setting tables for lost boys
Beat the drum, the city shines
With silver screens on thinning ice
You and me, making fun of the old songs
Spark a fag and draw the lines
The blue release at Christmas Time
And hush don't tell,
What it hurts to remember
10 to 3… tiptoe over the ashtrays
Overcoat and makeup on
Forget the thief that you’ve become
Say a prayer, take a seat at the table
Toast the dead and kiss your mum
The way you did when you were young
And hush dont tell,
What it hurts to remember
Hush don’t cry
Just smile, and face December like you’re told…
Hold your tongue, and pour the wine
Hope you learn to cope
Maybe you’re a ghost, only coming out at night
You haunt the streets inside my mind
Hold your tongue, and pour the wine
Hope you learn to cope
Maybe you’re a ghost, only coming out at night
I Know it hurts at Christmas time
So tell me this year will be better than the last one
God I love you, the way you stickin up your lights against the wall
In about it all
Babe, it's only christmas for me when the cavalry’s called
Tell me this year will be better than the last one
God I love you, the way you’re putting up your stockings at the tree
Innocent and free
Babe, it's only christmas for me when I’m aching to leave
23, Setting tables for lost boys
Beat the drum, the city shines
With silver screens on thinning ice
You and me, making fun of the old songs
Spark a fag and draw the lines
The blue release at Christmas Time
